Wilson's first experience as a politician came as his election as governor of New Jersey. During his time as governor, the first roots of his progressive platform were shown. His successes during governorship from 1910-1913 included various public school reform, editing a corrupt bill, and passing an act improving public utilities. This experience helped him win the nomination as Democratic candidate in the election of 1912.
